The Youth Services Department offers materials in multiple formats for children ages birth through 12 years.

We offer a full schedule of children’s events including all library locations, a weekly schedule of storytimes, tours by appointment, after school programs, and general assistance for patrons.

Award Books Collection

  • Caldecott Award – Given each year to the best illustrator of a story.
  • Newbery Medal  – Given each year to the best author of the written text of a book.
  • Coretta Scott King Awards – Given each year to the best African-American author and illustrator of children’s books.
  • South Carolina Book Awards – Books chosen each year by South Carolina schoolchildren in four categories: Picture Book, Children’s, Junior, and Young Adult.
