The Summer Reading Kick-Off is scheduled for JUNE 2 at 6:30
pm at the Main Library. This was planned before the snow days for schools,
so we are now adjusting our Summer Reading Club plans for the weekly programs to
begin on June 13.

SRC PARTIES
During the week of June 6-10 we will be having a Summer Reading
Club Kick-Off Party in each Branch from 3- 5pm, after school hours so
children can come in and register to participate in our reading program.
Parents may register their child anytime beginning June 1st.
There will be two levels of participation: Children who earn
the reading medal will have their names entered into a grand prize drawing
“LISTENERS” children ages birth to 5 who
have 30 books (6 books per week for 5 weeks) read to them by a parent
or a sibling to earn the SUMMER READING MEDAL. Parents register the child,
get the reading log and select books to share with the child. Just write down
the titles on the reading log. Child may attend the Family Story times in
branches where offered, plus attend any Special Event during the summer and
attend the End of Summer Reading Club party at their branch with an adult.
“READERS” children ages 6-11 who can read on
their own. They select 30 books to read on their grade level (6 books
per week for 5 weeks) to earn the SUMMER READING MEDAL. Any book with 500+
pages may count as 4 books! May attend the weekly programs at their nearest
branch, if child cannot come to the weekly programs, they can still register,
read the 30 books plus attend any of the Special Events and End of Summer
Reading Club branch parties.

African Folktales at
Main Library 2:00pm Bright Star Theatre of Asheville, NC
presents “African Folktales.” The performer Aliki shares with the
audience the vastness of the African landscape plus many clever animals in her
stories. Sponsored by Dr. and Mrs. Brett Stoll.

a program for children on Japanese culture and Origami.

will present “Folktales from Global Village” sharing 3 tales from around

READING KIDS (B.A.R.K.)
BOOKS And READING KIDS (B.A.R.K.) is a
program for children in grades 2-5 who are interested in sharing a book
with a Dog! SC DOGS (Therapy dogs) will be at the Main Library on FRIDAY
mornings from 9:15am till noon. Parents may call and register their child
for a specific time slot by June 6, 2011. Call Children’s Services at the
Main Library, 1-864-260-4500, ext 158 and ask to sign up for B.A.R.K.
