Settings for Norton Internet Security
 • 200520042003 2002

Remote access (access from a computer outside of the library) to our subscription databases is controlled by what is called a "Referring URL". For this system to work properly, the companies who publish these databases need to see the URL (web address) of the authenticated page you use to access their resources. This authenticated page is the Anderson County Library page which list the subscription resources that you are trying to access.

Many new Internet security packages and firewall programs block the publishing companies from viewing this referring URL. When this happens, the company will ask for an ID and password which does not exist. The only way for you to get access to these databases if you are using a security program that does this, is to add the domain names of these databases as allowed sites within your security packages.

Below are the instructions for adding these sites to various versions of Norton Internet Security(2005, 2004, 2003, 2002). If you are using a different security/firewall program, you may have to refer to the manual for that software.
