Directions:
Library is located between Pelzer, West Pelzer, and Williamston on Highway 20.
From I-85 take Highway 8 to intersection with 20. Turn right, library is
approximately one mile on the right on 20.
From Williamston, take 20 toward Pelzer, West Pelzer. Library is just outside of town limits on the left.
Local History:
The Lander Memorial Regional Branch Library is located
in Williamston, a town named for West Allen Williams. A prominent landowner,
Williams discovered a natural spring on his property, around which the town
prospered as a health resort. The library branch is named in honor of Susie
Lander, whose husband was Dr. William Lander. Dr. William Lander was the son of
Samuel Lander, a Methodist Minister. Dr. Samuel Lander established the
Williamston Female College, later know as Lander College when it was moved to
Greenwood, SC.
