As a system wide service to the patrons of the Anderson County Library, the Interlibrary Loan Office (ILL) at the Main Branch fills requests for books, articles from periodicals, master’s theses, doctoral dissertations, and other library materials that are not owned by the Anderson County Library via the Online Computer Library Center, Inc., (OCLC). Anderson County Library patrons may submit Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests at either the reference or circulation desks of the Main Library or through the service desk of a branch library or the bookmobile. Patrons may also make requests by telephone (864.260.4500), fax (864.260.4097), or e-mail: ill@andersonlibrary.org. Requests for books that are owned by the library system, but checked out and not long overdue, are handled by the Circulation Office, which places a “hold,” or a reserve, on the book. A patron is, notified when the book returns and is available for him/her to check out. The ILL Office does not place requests for books that are owned by the Anderson County Library unless those books are so long overdue they are considered lost. The ILL Office makes every effort to borrow books from libraries that do not charge lending fees. If there are any fees imposed by the lending library, the charges are passed on to the patron, who must agree in advance to pay the fees. Renewals of books borrowed via interlibrary loan are handled on a case by case basis. A patron requesting the renewal of a book or having questions about interlibrary loan should speak, in person or by telephone, with Jay Evatt, the ILL librarian, or the ILL technical assistant. The telephone number is (864.260.4500) Also through OCLC, the Anderson County
Library lends books and other library resources to other libraries all over the
country. We do not lend reference
books, genealogical titles or Caroliniana, new or popular books, books with a current year copyright
date, microforms, or audio-visual materials.
Exceptions are occasionally made at the discretion of the interlibrary
loan librarian. We will supply other libraries with photocopies from noncirculating items
from our collection—25 pages free-of-charge, 10 cents a page thereafter. We endeavor to maintain a
forty-eight hour turn-around time on all requests. |
