  • Each class meets for one session. For example, if you sign up for one Internet Basics class, you don't have to sign up for the other Internet Basics sessions. 

  • The classes require the ability to use a computer mouse. If you cannot use a mouse, call Cheryl Williams at (864) 260-4500 ext. 1189 to make arrangements to develop mouse skills before you come to class.

  • Classes are held in the Training Room at The Main Library.

Internet Basics
One Session / 2 Hour class - Learn about the history of the Internet and its structure.  You will also learn about search engines and perform simple searches, in addition to getting a brief introduction to e-mail.  
*This class is limited to 10 students.  Schedule

Internet Safety Tips for Parents and Guardians of Children
One Session/ 2½ Hour class – Increase your awareness of the social networking environment. Learn how and why you should keep your children safe as they use the internet. This Class will be held in the Children's Meeting room.

E-Mail
One Session / 2 Hour class - Learn how to sign up for a free e-mail account; send and receive a message; set up an address book; send and attachment; and learn basic online etiquette.
*It is recommended that you have completed  Internet Basics before taking this course.
*This class is limited to 8 students.  Schedule

MS Word I. -  (Prerequisite– basic mouse skills)
One Session / 2 Hour class - Learn about the basic tools of Word, practice skills such as selecting and modifying text, cutting and pasting and saving a document.  MS Word II and III go futher in-depth into Microsoft Word.
*This class is limited to 12 students.  Schedule

MS Word II. (Prerequisite – MS Word I.)
One Session / 2 Hour class - Review the basic tools of Microsoft Word, learn how to modify text, create numbered and bulleted lists, create tab stops, and insert clip art.
*Completion of Word I or permission of the instructor is required to take this class.

MS Word III. (Prerequisite – MS Word II.)
One Session / 2 Hour class - Learn to create tables, insert text and graphics from the Internet into a Word document, and improve your editing skills by reformatting a resume.
*Completion of Word II or permission of the instructor is required to take this class.

Online Travel Planning -  (Prerequisite– basic mouse skills)
One Session / 2 Hour class - Learn how to be your own travel agent.  You'll find out about making reservations on airline, cruises and discount travel sites, getting information about attractions at your destination, and tips on preparing for your trip.

Choosing the Right PC (Prerequisite– basic mouse skills)
One Session / 2 Hour class - Learn about what the newer PC have to offer. What does it mean when it says RAM, CD-RW, and do I need one, or how much of one do I need.  What is the difference between a MAC and a PC?  Lets discover what is right for you.

DISCUS (Prerequisite– basic mouse skills)
One Session / 2 Hour class – DISCUS (Digital Information for South Carolina Users) puts a world of information right at your finger tips. See how South Carolina’s Virtual Library gives all South Carolinians free online access to the best subscription library resources. Find magazine & newspaper articles, reference material, maps, pictures, student & teacher resources, the best Web links, and much more!

Online Shopping Safety -  (Prerequisite– basic mouse skills)
One Session / 2 Hour class- Learn how to be safe while shopping on the internet.  How to avoid the pitfalls, tragedies, and trails of online shopping.

Internet Research Strategies -  (Prerequisite– basic mouse skills)
One Session/ 2 Hour class – Examine and master the four basic steps of the search process. Learn how to research a topic on the Web. Also learn how to evaluate web sources for relevance, authority and accuracy.
*It is recommended that you have completed Internet Basics before taking this course.

Introduction to Excel -  (Prerequisite– basic mouse skills)
One Session / 2 Hour class – Get an introduction to the basics of using Excel 2003, a spreadsheet program for data management. It is designed to show you the basics, along with a few fancy features, to get you off to a good start using the program.

Introduction to PowerPoint -  (Prerequisite– basic mouse skills)
One Session / 1½ Hour class – Learn how to use Microsoft PowerPoint as a tool to create professional looking presentations and slide shows. PowerPoint allows you to construct presentations from scratch or by using the easy to use wizard.
*This class is limited to 8 students.  Schedule

Resume/Cover Letter Preparation -  (Prerequisite– basic mouse skills)
One Session / 2 Hour class - Learn how to create an impressive resume and cover letter to use as selling tools to outline your skills and experiences so an employer can see, at a glance, how you can contribute to the employer's workplace.
*This class is limited to 8 students.  Schedule

Ebay (Prerequisite– basic mouse skills)
One Session / 2 Hour class – Learn how to shop online at the world's largest garage sale, online shopping center, car dealer and auction site with 147 million registered users in 30 countries as of March 2005. You can find everything from encyclopedias to olives to snow boots to stereos to airplanes for sale on Ebay.
*It is recommended that you have completed Internet Basics before taking this course.

Blogging -  (Prerequisite– basic mouse skills)
One Session / 2 Hour class – Learn how to use fun, informal web log journals to give yourself a Web presence without spending a lot of time or money. Examine setting up, maintaining and updating diary-like entries which allow you to share your personal opinions or expertise on any subject ranging from your family vacation to world peace.
*It is recommended that you have completed Internet Basics before taking this course.

Introduction to Publisher (Prerequisite– basic mouse skills)
One Session / 2 Hour class - Find out how you can easily create, customize, and publish materials such as newsletters, brochures, flyers, catalogs, and Web sites. Publish easily on your desktop printer.

Refdesk.com -  (Prerequisite– basic mouse skills)
One Session / 2 Hour class – Learn how the convenience of Refdesk.com resources can help you with your research. Refdesk.com is a free and family-friendly web site that indexes and reviews quality, credible, and current web-based resources.

ACL Catalog (IBistro) -  (Prerequisite– basic mouse skills)
One Session / 2 Hour class – Learn how to use IBistro, Anderson County Library’s Electronic Library on the Web, to find out everything from what books are in the Library’s holdings to what Oprah’s Book Club is reading..
*This class is limited to 14 students.  Schedule

Thomson Gale Databases -  (Prerequisite– basic mouse skills)
One Session / 2 Hour class – Gale Databases such as Peterson’s Testing and Education Reference Center are all valuable resources.  Learn how to access practice tests for the GED, college entrance and licensing exams.
*This class is limited to 14 students.  Schedule

Gale Virtual Reference Library -  (Prerequisite– basic mouse skills)
One Session / 2 Hour class – Gale Virtual Reference Library is a database of encyclopedias and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research. These reference materials were once accessible only in the library, but now you can access them online from the library or remotely 24/7. Learn how to access and use the 27 e-books listed in this database.
